Install the HP Software First for USB Installations
Install the HP software from the HP printer installation CD before connecting the USB cable. The software will prompt you when to connect the USB cable. Please refer to your printed documentation for detailed step-by-step installation instructions.
When multiple instances of the same device are installed, two entries appear in the HP Solution Center. Typically, the first instance of the device installed has the name of the device (for example, HP Photosmart X series) and the second instance is called copy 1. You can rename these by going into the printer folder and changing the name of each entry. For example, HP Photosmart X – home and HP Photosmart X - work. Changing these entries also changes the name of the status icon and the device listing in the HP Solution Center.
NOTE: When switching between these devices or locations, make sure the device you are trying to use is default and online.
